Taking over for a while

Sometimes even I get to be in charge. (Ty doesn't think so). Ali is busy with work right now and I have all the free time. I mean between feedings, play time, baths, reading books, cooking , cleaning, and of course...Diaper changes. So here we are and it's my turn again to update all of you.

Ty started walkng at 9 1/2 months and obviously hasn't slowed down. From the first few steps he was determined not to have to crawl.

So the child proofing began. Baby gates, (which he has figured out), electrical outlets, and cabinets. Every time we think it's all done he shows us all a place we have forgotten. So watching him has changed. You still have to be on top of your game no doubt about it. But it's different. Before you could go off for a second to use the bathroom and you knew he couldn't go anywhere now...You get some company and all the help you need in the reading room. On the other hand as long as you watch him, he can go off for a minute or two on his own and occupy himself giving you a mini-vacation.

His interests amaze me. Man does he like to read books. One after the other. It seems never ending throughout the day. He can pick out some animals or especially he can pick out Mommy in pictures. He's real good at that. You most definitely have his attention when you pick up a book.
Yes it started early. He eats pretty good. Got 5 or 6 teeth in there he can really do some damage with. He has become a bit more picky now so being creative at meal time is essential. Also, be prepared for a little clean-up after cause he has been known to play in his food a little.

He still sleeps good I think although he has been waking up at night about every 3-4 nights. He takes his naps in the day time as well. 2 or 3 daily. And there is one sure way to put him to sleep. TAYLOR SWIFT !!! when she sings "Untouchable" His lights go out. Truly an amazing sight to see. His fascination with her is undeniable. He will completely shut out all around him and focus on her.

On to me. Late in August I weighed 268 lbs. and found out I was diabetic. Something I should have known about much earlier. All the signs were there and Ali told me to get it checked. Well when the symptoms got worse I knew there was no denying it. A1C levels are supposed to be near 6. mine was 13. My glucose meter showed a 465 the first time I took it. Proper level is about 90. They tell me when it reads 400 call a Dr. and at 500 call 911. Scary numbers. My A1C level showed that my sugar level had reached 500+ regularly and 600 probably. Ignorance on my part. But Alicia was there once again to get me on track.

After evaluation and education,(Ali with a dietician). I started preparation for a lifestyle change.
No sugar. Period. WOW ! Did I just really say that? Well that is what it was going to take. But that's not all. Not by a long shot. But by keeping my carbs around 250 a day and limiting calorie intake to as close to 2,000 as I could get, my results have inspired me Doctors, my family, and most of all Me to continue doing the right things.
Today i woke up at 230 lbs. My glucose stays under 100 and I feel as good as I have felt in a long long time. I still have a long way to go but at least I have started the journey. Last year at Christmas my highest weight was 272 lbs. So I'm minus 42 and counting. The weight isn't coming off as fast now so I have to be even more dedicated. Good luck to me.

That's all for now. Ty has an appointment with the helmet specialist so we can check his progress. I will let you know how it turns out soon. Good luck to him.

6 Months

Tyler is a whopping 6 months today and as we take our first nap of the day I am a little overwhelmed with emotion. Maybe it is do to lack of sleep but either way here goes........

My life has changed so much over the last 4 years and even more over the last 6 months. People say I smile all the time and continue to glow. Personally I have never been happier. I have always had a great family, but I am so lucky to fine my lifelong partner and get married. Some people never do and I am grateful to be blessed. Not only did Jerry come into my life but Matt came too. Matt and I also have a special bond. I told him I am not your mom nor do I try but I am your family. I truly do love and care for him the way families do and would anything to help him succeed in life.

Then comes Tyler.........I remember the day Dr. Young said we were going to have him. Three weeks early. My Valentine baby in January, but with him came tons of love. During my pregnancy I just kept on saying I hope I can do this, I hope I am ready, I hope I will a be a good mom and be able to provide everything like my parents did. The day I went into labor I freaked out not only with joy, but my nerves got me since no one was around. This was not like I imagined or thought. I was in labor without Jerry, my mom or dad. NO NO NO, but then Matt was there . Matt calmed me down and reassured me that it all would be O.K.. When they announced it was a boy, my first words were "He has hair", as stupid as this sounds now, I always wanted a baby with hair. Over the last couple months there have been challenges but I look at Tyler to today and wonder how I survived without him. He is my pride and joy. I long to be with him every second of the day. I also think, will I ever have this moment again? No and yes. No in the since he will only be this small once, but yes because I will never forget what it is like to hold him, have him hold my hand with that tiny finger, and watch him fall asleep so peacefully. He is a gift from God. So as he wakes up now. I should post this before I don't have time. I could write forever on all the emotions I have today, but either way.......Happy Birthday Tyler....your Mommy loves you always.

AS tired as I maybe I am never so excited to see him. I get home from work and as soon as he sees me he starts to smile even if he is half asleep. His bond with his Daddy has grown so much. I hate to admit it but there are times that he prefers to go to Daddy now...it isn't all Mommy. So since so much has happened I am just going to list everything he can do now/has taken place. New book interest

What happen here???????

Every morning Tyler plays on his mat and watches baby Einstein movies. Well This morning I left him playing, made coffee, and returned to find him totally turned around facing the TV head on with the toys behind him. He did a 180 somehow.

Nothing better than....

1. Watching TV with your Daddy while your sick....plus I couldn't believe already how similar they look doing things........

2. Petting an animal or grapping his tail when your are sick

3. Being loved and getting smothered in kisses when you don't feel good

Starting with a Bang!

I have been so excited about Tyler turning 4 months for weeks and weeks because I knew that meant he was going to start eating baby cereal. So on Tuesday the 26th we had our 4 month well baby check up to go to and we would get the ok and I would start the cereal process in hopes it would help him sleep better. Boy was I wrong...let me paint the picture..................

On Monday night, Ty started getting fuzzy and tooting a lot so I gave him something for gas and a warm bath and he was fine. BUT then throughout the night he got up 11 times and would not sleep unless he was with me and no more than an hour at a time. In the morning around 5:30am he woke up and was so hot! No way !!! I thought he can't be sick I have done everything they told me to keep me healthy and he still got sick??? I breast feed him, no day care, no one sick around him, I was my hands with diapers, I wash his hands.....how could this happen???? Well sure enough temp of 100.8 and he was FUSSY!!! So I call the doctor's answering service, work ( which I was so looking forward to going to since I LOVE my new job) and Jerry. So now our well baby check up is no more and cereal feeding is no more instead I am missing work and we are going for our first sick visit.

We get to the doctor's office and I take Matt for baby back up since nothing is making "Tyler Smilerson" happy and they say he has a GI bug and it will be DAYS possibly before the diarrhea or fever breaks and I am SUPPOSED to just ride it out....HEllO I am in health care. I don't ride things out I take action! So I was sooooooooo frustrated. Jerry then decides to come home because he is also so worried which was a blessing since I had to go to work the next day and I was running on 1 hour of sleep with a nonstop crying baby. Thank God for blessing me with such a wonderful husband! And we start to ride out the storm aka Tyler.

From Tuesday until Late Thursday night we had a baby that would not let you put him down or stop moving with him at all. At times he would not breastfeed which stressed me out and required Tylenol around the clock just to keep his fever down to 99.8 for 4 hours. It was rough and then like magic I saw the light......he would play a little and he slept in his crib for 2hours..yeah we made it. So Thursday night Jerry went back to work and on Friday Matt returned to childcare. I think this has been the most stressful time yet with Tyler because I could not doing anything at all. I just went with what made him happy and a lot of baths.

SO here are some pictures of before and after the storm and I am glad for every one's support during this time.

The Day of the storm.....morning......no signs of what is going to take place

The Storm........watch out!!!!!!!!!!!
